BB and dial-up

Just ordered BT Broadband. Mainly because I want to keep my e-mail addresses
and to avoid any problems with ISP blaming BT & vice versa if problems
occur.

Question is, as a BT BB customer, will I still be able to use the freefone
dial-up number when using my laptop away from home? I called BT again and
ended up talking to one of our coloured bretheren on another continent, who
clearly couldn't understand what I was asking.

No big deal, but it would be nice if I could use the dial-up from my laptop
as well as BB at home.

Cheers

you can do that anyway, without using an overpriced ISP with a
restrictive GB cap and high per-GB charges.

you just get two departments blaming each other instead.

only if you pay for the freefone dialup service as well, it isn't
anything to do with the broadband service.

you'll have to use their PAYG service, or cough up for 080x access if
usage merits it.

Tiscali - dialup speeds at Broadband prices, see

AOL - the unlimited ISP of choice for heavy downloaders.

I very much doubt it. I assume that the freefone access comes with
subscribing to some kind of 'Anytime' service - which has presumably been
cancelled in favour of BB?

What makes you think that your ISP won't be able to blame BT if anything
goes wrong? BT ISP and BT Wholesale are, AIUI, separate entities.

As far as email addresses are concerned, I don't know what the score is with
BT - but you can keep former ones with most ISPs. For example, I used to
have a dial-up Anytine account with Freeserve (now Wanadoo). I now have a
PlusNet broadband account. The Freeserve account has simply been converted
to PAYG (so I don't pay them any more) and I can still send and receive
emails carrying the Freeserve addresses whilst physically connected via
PlusNet.

So it may be that neither of your reasons for sticking with BT is
particularly valid - and they have one of the *worst* reputations in the
business.

It makes no difference. BT Broadband have to deal with BT Wholesale just
like any other ISP do. In fact, they're probably not even as efficient at
doing so as some other ISPs.
