I am just starting to put together a practice lab for all of the crazy stuff
I do and I ran into a problem

First I have a: small network of 3 pc --> switch --> Server 03 --> Internet
Since im using 2 nics i would like the server to address the network and
provide internet access. after some reading i did my setup as such

Using Internet Conn Sharing I enabled one NIC onto the internet and enabled
ICS
---- this is with no DHCP scope or any setup whatsoever-----

When i enabled ICS it causes my internal NIC to address itself with
192.168.0.1 but it will not address network clients ... am i missing
something

I guess more importantly is there a more efficient way of doing this ?????

any help is appreciated

setting up the internal card as 192.168.0.1 is the normal way.

Then, if you want a DHCP Server, you have to install it. It's not included
in the ICS part.
A DHCP server is built in windows server, you should it install it.

ICS has a built-in allocator which works like a mini DHCP server. If you
try to set up your own DHCP service you will effectively have two DHCP
servers running, which may cause problems.

Did you try doing an "ipconfig / release" followed by "ipconfig /renew"
on a client PC? This should force the client to get its network config from
ICS and give them a 192.168.0.x IP and set the default gateway to
192.168.0.1 .

ICS should work, but I prefer to use RRAS and set it up as a NAT
router. You can then choose which IP subnet address you want, rather than
being forced to use 192.168.0.0 . You can also disable the DHCP function in
NAT and use DHCP on the server.
