Base Station Requirements for MN-710 Adapter

I currently have a Microsoft 802.11b base station, but I
need a new wireless usb adapter for the PC I want to
connect to. I have found the "Microsoft MN-710 Broadband
Networking Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter" on a Microsoft's
Hardware website, but it says it is for 802.11g.

My question is - will it work with my 802.11b base station,
or will I need to buy a new 802.11g base station?

Hi,

You can use the MN-710 Wireless USB 2.0 802.11g adapter with your 802.11b
base station

802.11g is backward compatible with 802.11b, so that it'll work with the
11Mbps network, the draw back is that you won't be able to achieve speeds of
54Mbps because your base station is a 802.11b 11Mbps access point.
