I'm getting "Connection attemp to base station from WAN
blocked" messages constantly in my log file. Averages
around 50 to 60 an hour. What does this mean? Is someone
trying to hack into my network?

It means that someone was trying to connect, but their attempt was logged
and blocked.

Isn't this an unusally large amount of attempts,
continuously, hour after hour.

It's par for the course now.

It'll probably get worse before it gets better...
