Got a 'b' connection but i am only ever using 25% of my bandwidth
whenever i tranfer files. What could be the reasons for this.

Poor signal strength.

Signal stength is excellent. The WAP is only about 10ft away in the same
room.

I assume you mean that on your 11 Mb/s 802.11b network, you only achieve
a 3 Mb/s (or so) sustained rate for file transfers. If so, that's about
normal for a 802.11b net segment running in infrastructure mode on SOHO
gear. 11 Mb/s is the peak bit rate, and not at all what you should expect
for STR. As you can see by the large ratio of peak rate to STR, 802.11b
has lots of protocol overhead.

I find it somewhat curious that folks get upset by the 30% efficiency of
802.11b, but barely notice that the efficiency of a standard incandescent
light bulb is about 10%.

Well what u dont know you cant make judgment. I did not know 30% was all
i should expect, thankx for the info. My router is 'g'. I shall be
buying a 'g' pcmcia card today.
I do use Energy saving light bulbs though. Mainly 9w where possible
