Bandwidth limit copy

Every day I need to transfer files totalling about 4Gb from my windows 2000
server to a client computer for backup purposes, this obviously slows the
network considerably. As I have all day to transfer the files is there any
way I can copy with reduced bandwidth. i.e. copy at maximum 500kbps

Thanks in advance,

Dan

In order to achieve that you will have to implement some kind of QoS
(Quality of Service). There are also third-party applications which do a
bandwidth throttling, but I've never used one, so I cannot recommend.

Using a Switch instead of a hub will help greatly. You also want both
machines plugged into the same switch. The switch will create a "virtual
circuit" between the two hosts and nothing else sees the traffic.

Access to the two involved machines by other machine will still be
effected,..no way around that. There is no good "throttling" solution for a
case like this that I am aware of.

The best solution may be to change the entire way that you do whatever it is
that you are doing in the first place. But there is no way to say because I
don't know what it is that you are doing this for.

Try Total Copy

http://ranvik.net/totalcopy/

Allows you to limit the bandwidth that a copy takes up.

Wonderful little program.
