Hi there,

how can I make measurement of the traffic between lan and internet
gateway (excluse wifi traffic) ?

I nead to measure and log traffic (only bandwith) generated from any
single pc of a lan of 30 pc and a server.

Is it possible, for example, do it by a linuxbox with 2 nics between
lan-switch and router ?

What software open-source can I use to write bandwith logs?

Thanks to everyone.

Joe

I would use the switch (using snmp) and install traffstats on the linux box.

Yes. At least it should support snmp.
This way you can monitor each port.
Every old cisco should do.

You may use ntop on a Linux box to monitor all hosts traffic, It's
easy to configure and it will give you detailed informations about
each host how much it received and sent per hour and per protocol and
more, Check it, may it helps.
You may attach the Linux box to the trunk port on the switch for
example, or set it between the LAN and the Internet so it sees the
whole traffic.
-I may advice you to put a Linux machine between your LAN and the
router so you may use this Linux machine to achieve more and more
benefits, You may use it as a cache server and caching only DNS
server, QOS box and more.
Regards,
