Yes I know usb adsl isnt the best way to do it - but apart from when
tiscali itself isnt working too well it all works fine and does
everything I want it to do .

Got to thinking if my usb modem ever packed up i'd have to mess around
with a dialup modem until I got a new usb modem .

Any recommendations for a good backup usb modem that I could buy now at
reasonable cost ? .

I know its terrible to answer the question with an answer you dont want....
Dont get hung up on the usb thing.

This modem will do it all for you, it is usb and also ethernet. The ethernet
option is always superior, once you have set it up it really is simple.

this will do you..

Thanks dude - that looks fine as it allows for a bit of experimentation
with the option to go back to usb if wanted/needed .

Will buy it at the weekend assuming nobody says anything bad about it .

You could buy a Wanadoo starter pack for £14.99 or Bulldog connection pack
for £19.00 from Woolworths, but I'm unsure if the modems will be locked to
the respective service , is that possible anyone?

Regards,
Tony.

Would imagine it is possible if the drivers where written to suit .

But in theory if that was the case - couldnt you just go to the modem
makers website and download the latest drivers rather than using the
drivers on the cd :-)

Have you checked your local FreeCycle group? Heck if I had one I'd be happy
to give it away.

It's the same with any Yahoo group. It's to prevent spammers gleaning
addresses. Well worth subscribing and joining in. A much better way of
getting rid of unwanted items and you can pick up all sort of stuff free.
