Im looking for a program that will backup a drive or specific folders to
another drive on a different computer.

And it needs these features:
- Folders can be backed up at a specific time every week.
- Only modified or new files will be copied, as these folders with contain
GBs of data.
- If the other computer is not available to copy from/to, then the action
would be posponed till next time (not crash)

Does anyone know a good program that will do this, both machines be running
win2000 and on a wierd network.

Regards

You can use xcopy to do this.

The Windows 2000 scheduler can run batch files easily enough. I use
xcopy to make regular backups from workstation to server, and on the
server to make another backup on another disk.

Cobian Backup it can run as an NT/2000 service, I use it to mirror
directories from NT4 to a work station running Fedora Core 2, as long
as the username and password are correctly setup on, destination, target
and the Cobian NT service it works flawlessly. It will do all the
baxckup options and can compress to standard Zip archives.

At stated, www.secondcopy.com & xcopy with task scheduler (etc).

o Xcopy will do everything you need out of the box
---- bring up a DOS window
---- type in "XCOPY /?" [SPACE] [SHIFT \] "more" to paginate the help output
o Simply create a DOS batch file, which is then run by the scheduler
---- Notepad editor
o All integral to windows, easy control, /V option adds Verification to copies

You can also do multiple XCOPY, eg, archiving things.
SecondCopy could do with decent G-F-S archiving (Grandfather, Father, Son)
as I don't think it supported it the last time I tried it. Cheap & works though,
just that Xcopy is free and the money saved is part way to a backup HD :-)

This works when already logged on to the target PC from Windows.

Anyone tell me the DOS commands to add to a batch file to logon to a
networked (Win 2k) PC, so that the xcopy in the .BAT can execute?

Got it now, for anyone trawling the archives it can be done by mapping a
drive letter:

NET USE z: \\pcname\sharename password /USER:username

UPPERCASE ARE COMMAND SYNTAX
lowercase are variable values
