Mine (MR814v2) has an option on its web page "Backup Settings" in which you
can save its settings to a file, or restore them from a file.

An ASCII character walks into a bar and orders a double. "Having a bad day?"
asks the barman. "Yeah, I have a parity error," replies the ASCII character.
The barman says, "Yeah, I thought you looked a bit off." -- Skud

Mine is a BEFSR11 but it doesn't have this function... think yours has
more functions and is newer. mine is a one port router which is
connected to a 4 port switch.

The firmware for mine said in its docs that it wiped the settings on
upgrade, but I think that is a CYA move on Netgear's part; it didn't. See
if you can find a statement by others who have done the upgrade, as to
whether or not it reverted to factory default, before you transcribe all the
settings (because with no 'save to file' feature, I think that's what you're
going to have to do).

I have a BEFSR41. You can access it from your web browser? What about
using something like sitecopy? Copy all the web pages (including all the
filled out fields) from the router to some directory? Good for reference?

Ah, unless you're asking how to copy out its firmware? I suspect you
cannot do that, but you might find the old firmware on their support site?
Usually firmware stores are made sort of "write only". Obviously, they are
read and executed by the internal microprocessor. However, you usually
cannot read them out, maybe for 2 reasons:
1) makes it harder for competitors to steal your firmware?
2) any updates were already outside, obtained somehow (web site?)

How about writing them down?
