Thannks for the response.
The gateway is set dynamically. Although all seems to be fine now. I think
the main problem was that i had zone alarm installed but had disabled it in
the startup so that there was one less thing to worry about. This seemed to
be confusing matters and by having it installed but not running it was
blocking all ports. Does this sound feasible?
I also found that the workgroup had miraculously changed (although didnt
think that should be an issue) and chose to manually set the ip address and
everything statically.
