Today I ran a full scan of 3 machines with AVG Free edition - 2 W2K and 1
XpPro. AVG was updated today.

On each machine. AVG reported a trojan called Generic2.lni.

It is my practice to copy the installation CD on to the machines so that
when Windoze asks for the CD to be inserted, I can point it to the HD copy.

These trojans were reported in these copies - so I went CD hunting.

The first actual CD I came across was a W2K, so I ran the scan on it. It
seems to be infected too. Are viruses now so good that they can infect CDs?
I don't think so.

Anybody with a paid-for copy willing to report this to Grisoft? Does paid-
for fall over too?

I've previously had a false positive with AVG Free. I reported it here,
received some instructions, which I followed, and they fixed it in the next
update:

You're right mate. See, it's much too easy for him to just call you
'fuckwit' than to say 'wrong group' and point you in the right direction
(maybe go to AVG's own website and look at the forums there). Some people
who regularly post in these sort of groups seem to be infected with the
group mentality of 'must convince myself that I do belong here and that
it's our newsgroup by quickly telling anyone unfortunate enough to post
here by mistake to **** off' How sad eh? Don't bother about him mate,
least you've not got such a sad, pathetic life like he has.
