I'm looking for some software that will let me send messenger style 'Net
Send' messages over my local LAN o several computers. Ideally I am looking
for something that can be set up to send the same message at a set time
period (say every 30 minutes all the time). Can anyone help with this one?
or help me to set up XP to do ths job.

Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards

How about one of the many instant messaging application that are available
for Linux? For cyclic tasks you could set up some cron jobs. To exchange
personal messages (correspondence), I personally use a Wiki. Alternatively,
you could send E-mails messages from one machine to another using a one-line
command. This can be easily set to become a cron job.

To borrow an example:

* 59 23 * * * /users/geoff/bin/mail-summary

* 30 16 * * 1-5 echo "Time to go home" | mailx -s "Get a life!" joebob

* 23 22 9,24 * * /usr/local/bin/print-paychecks

Hope it helps,

Roy

Install Bopup Communication Server, create News Message and set up a
message periodicity. This will send instant messages to all logged on
users, that were specified in server message. On client computers you
should Bopup Messenger/Observer to receive those messages.

Unfortunately the server is not able to send messages to standard
Windows Messenger Service and WinPopup. But messengers supports this
ability. Try to contact their support, maybe it will give any result.
See the software at http://www.blabsoft.com/

I don't know you should contact winpopup-express.com because they can
customize the application for your needs (small fee).

If you decide to go this route (the easiest IMHO) then pop up a dos prompt
by StartMenu->Run cmd [press Enter key] and experiment with the net send
command (literally, try typing 'net send /?' without the quotes for the
rather sparse help)

Once you've found the net send command that sends the right message to the
right machine(s), put that command into a batch file (filename.bat) and
set that to run on the task scheduler.

You may even be able to directly shedule the net send command, but I
imagine it would be easier, testing and experiment wise, to get a bat file
working and then schedule that.
