I have a MAC G5 running YDL3.0 that I am setting automounter on. It works
fine, execpt when I added /home to the auto.master file. I created /home,
and restarted autofs. I went o go back and see if it worked, and the
directory was gone. Any ideas?

Thanks,
James

While I relatively limited experiance with the autofs/automount
facility and no experiance with MAC G5's running YDL 3.0, my experiance
in a RHEL 3 environment lead me to believe it was not necessary to
create the directory(ies) that is(are) specified in auto.master file.
When the autofs service was started, it would create the directory
automatically and when the autofs service was stopped, the directory
would be removed. I experianced problems if I tried to create the
directory myself.

In your case, perhaps you can try stopping and starting the autofs
service when the /home directory doesn't exist.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Steve, but it was a no go.

The auto.master file looks like the following:
/net -hosts -nodevs,nosuid,nobrowse,retry=3
/home auto_home -nodevs,nobrowse,nosuid,proto=udp
/opt/corp/lb auto_loadbuild -nodevs,nobrowse,proto=udp,retry=3

Can I not just add a /home dir and have it picked up? I am almost certain
that is what I did on other machines.

Thanks,
James

Hi James ... I fear that if you've got previous experiance with autofs
then my giving you advice is like the blind trying to escort the
sighted across a busy street ... it could get messy ;-).

Bearing that in mind, I must confess the second column (i.e. the map
file specification) in your auto.master file differs somewhat from what
I'd have expected. I'm not familiar with what the "-hosts"
specification would do. As for the "auto_home" and "auto_loadbuild"
entries, I presume these are the names of autofs map files. For what
its worth, in the few auto.master files I've be exposed to, these
autofs map file specifications were always provided using an absolute
pathname (e.g. "/etc/auto_home") ... but with my limited knowledge, I
recognise its entirely possible if a full pathname is not provided then
autofs/automount might look in some default directory that I'm not
aware of.

Here's hoping somebody more knowledgeable in the subject matter will
jump in to assist.

Steve
