I believe this will happen if the printer is published in AD. I think from the client you can turn it off by clicking Tools, Folder Options, View Tab and uncheck Automatically search for network folders and printers. There may be a group policy you can set for this as well but I don't know where it is. Could also script it in vb and use the vb script as a computer startup script in a GPO if you can find the registry setting associated with this.

We recently installed a Windows Server 2003 Doman.
Printers installed and shared from the file and print
server are "auto" added to clients profiles, meaning these
printers are automatically installed for some domain
users. This also appears to happen when XP clients are
sharing their local printers. When this happens, the
term "Auto" is appended to the beginning of the printer
name in the Printers of the user profile. Can someone
point me to the correct knowledgebase article that
describes this feature so I can understand this behavior
and control it. THANKS!!!!!
