I got a problem with a DHCP server in our AD. The status of this DHCP server
suddenly went to unauthorized. If I authorize the server again with the "DHCP
snap-in" in the mmc , it is after still in an unauthorized status. Also I
tried to uninstall the DHCP server and install it again, but no sucsess. Is
there any other way to authorize the server again?

I'm having roughly the same problem. We have 35 remote offices and each host
dhcp for the office. The issue is only happening to one of our servers. I
can unauthorize it by selecting to unauthorize it and then stop and start the
service. I can then re-authorize dhcp but it does exactly the same thing
again and unauthorizes itself some how.

FWIW, keep in mind that you must be an Enterprise Admin in order to
authorize a DHCP server. This is because the DHCP authorization is
written into the Configuration naming context in Active Directory.

You can use ADSI Edit to see if the DHCP authorizations are indeed
being written properly. I believe the location is
cn=NetServices,cn=Services,cn=Configuration,dc=dom ain,dc=tld...but I
don't have a DHCP server handy in my test lab so I can't verify that.

HTH.

The account is an enterprise admin, but the service in adsi looks a bit
weird. the letters and numbers are weird characters.

In addition to previous post,
Is the DHCP service started?
If you load up AD Sites and Services. Right click on Sites and Services and
choose View > Show Service Node. Expand Services > NetServices. There should
be a entry for DHCPROOT

Hope this helps,

The dhcp service is started and was working for 8 or 9 months before the
problem started. I did look and see that the dhcp server was listed and it
was, but it looks a bit corrupt. Here's how it's listed,
10.61.1.3CNF:cb3a57ef-096f-49dd-86c6-1c43c6419c25, while the others are
listed by there hostnames.

Looks like the DHCP authorization entry is being affected by a
replication conflict. Are you experiencing Active Directory
replication issues?

You might try deleting this entry using ADSIEdit, allowing enough time
for replication to all other DCs, and then verifying (again using
ADSIEdit) on each DC that the entry no longer exists. Then
re-authorize using the DHCP console and see if that corrects the
problem.

HTH.
