Hi,
I have a windows 2000 serve Sp4 with Active Directory. When I try to
authenticate a windows XP workstation to the domain, I receive the username
and password box. I then get an error that says
"the network name cannot be found"
I am using the administrator account to authenticate. Any ideas? Thanks.

Mitch

Can you ping the domain controller? If you can, what is the DNS setting
on the workstation? It should point to your local DNS only.

I can ping the server. I am a dhcp address with the correct IP's. I also did a
ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns. The dhcp is pointing to the
DNS server. Any thoughts?

If you are looking at the correct DNS server, the only thing I can think
of is that you are using the wrong domain name.

What exactly are you trying to do - logon from this computer that is domain
member, join it to the domain, or access a domain resource from a workgroup
computer?? Smb signing can sometimes be a problem with XP and Windows 2000.
See the link below for more on that. --- Steve
