I have a MN-500 wireless router with one laptop connected wireless using a
microsoft wireless network card. I would like to upgrade to SP2. I am still
using the Broadband Network Utility (with Windows XP sp1), but see from other
posts that this can be removed and allow Windows to manage the card. I have
already checked services to see that the Wireless Zero Configuration is
running. My question relates to the specific steps to accomplish upgrade and
then management of the card (i.e. would I remove the Broadband utility and
then try to get the card configured before upgrading to sp2, or upgrade to
sp2, lose internet connection, and then remove the broadband utility and try
to configure the card?). I would also ask then, how does the card get
configured? The only other time I did this was when it was first installed,
and the Microsoft software did all the work. Will an install wizard appear
or something? I presume I will have to enter my network information (e.g.
WEP key), but how is this done?

I did try this before (when sp2 first came out), and updated the broadband
network utility. Never was able to get it to work (security key issues), so
uninstalled SP2 and have been using sp1 ever since.

Thank you in advance for whatever assistance you can provide.

You don't need the pretty front end software to manage your LAN, but it is
that software which is in conflict with XP SP2 only. The information is
here: http://support.microsoft.com/msbbn For adapter cards, you can
install the drivers only, and, as you noted, use Wireless Zero Configuration
to administer the operation. Your base station can be managed from
192.168.2.1 (the default IP address, or whatever you gave it) from within
the address line in your browser. Updating to XP SP2 shouldn't change your
LAN configurations on the hardware.

Well here are several articles about configuring wireless in Windows XP
along with some for troubleshooting.

Don't pay malware vendors - boycott Sony & Symantec for helping them

Please do not contact me directly or ask me to contact you directly for
assistance.

If your question is worth asking, it's worth posting.

If it’s not worth posting you should have done a search on
http://www.google.com/ http://www.google.com/grphp?hl=en&tab=wg&q= or
http://news.google.com/froogle?hl=en&tab=nf&ned=us&q= before wasting our
time.

If I sound hostile or arrogant you need to read the following before
posting a question "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way" at
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html (The site I've linked
to just has this article I think people should read before posting a
technical question.)

I guess I don't understand. Can I still use my MN-500 Base station w/ MN-520
Notebook Adaptor in XP SP2? I just recently upgraded to SP2 and now it
doesn't connect.
I tried setting it up w/out WEP and change it later, but the Notebook
Adaptor will not connect to the base station. Please help. I'm not sure if
I have the same problem as "frustrated novice."

Double-check your settings, and make sure your MN-520 is receiving an IP
address within your LAN (probably 192.168.1.x). You can check this by going
to the Command Prompt (not Start/Run) and typing in "ipconfig" without the
quotes. If it is reporting a 169.x.x.x address, then you're not seeing the
router.
