hello NG,
since i have spent now about 28h trying to install SuSE 8.2 on a Asus
P4P800 - and it seems, that finally everything worked out fine- i feel like
having to sharing my solution to you, so maybe you'll reach your goal a
little faster than me.
Well, the problems I had encountered were, that the normal NIC- driver
supported from ASUS (v A11) didn't work out (NIC worked only temporarely,
and after reboot everything was gone again). I then tried another driver
(sk98lin), with the result, that the NIC worked, but when sending traffic
over it, the system hanged after a few minutes.
So, here's what I did:
- Updated Mainboard- Bios to 1010
- Turned off Hyperthreading in BIOS ! (Otherwise the SMP- Kernel is getting
installed > problems with NIC!)
- Used boot options: pci=bios apic noht acpismp=force
- Installed NIC- driver sk98lin 6.17 from
http://www.skyconnect.de (very
nice installation routine!)
That's it. I have the system now running for about 30 mins with 6 pings
outgoing and 6 incoming, and everything seems stable. With the previous
installations, this would have resulted in a system freeze after about 3
mins..
HTH,
feedback wellcomed, especially concerning experiences with the skyconnect-
driver.
