ASDL modem/router problems

Hi,

I have a Solwise SAR715PV ADSL modem/router which has suddenly stopped
working.

When I switched it on today the LAN lights flashed as normal but did
not come on steady later. The ethernet ports seems to be dead as all
the PCs have the error "network cable unplugged". The power light is
on steady and the ADSL light just flashes, as when it can't connect.

As the LAN ports are dead it is very difficult to find out what is
happening. I have managed to connect a serial cable and login through
that. The CLI semantics are pretty hard to understand though. I have
succesfully managed to upgrade the firmware, but the router is still
not working.

Can anyone tell me how to diagnose this problem? Thanks.

Mark

Have you tried resetting the router using any reset buttons on the hardware?

Have you been 'upgraded' to ADSLmax? My SAR715PVW couldn't cope with
the required constant connects and reconnects, so I ditched it, it had
paid for itself over 3.5 years. I got an ASUS ADSL mode/wireless router
instead that cost about GBP55 and is *SO* much better.

If you connect up the serial port to it (I think 9600 8-N-1) you
should get some
info as it starts up.

It looks like it's duff to me.

Have you had any thunderstorms recently? It's not that unusual for such
equipment to be damaged (permanently) by an induction surge

I don't know if I have been "upgraded". Plusnet are not good at
keeping me informed IMHO. My SAR715PV had worked perfectly before.

My router has not paid for itself - maybe I should sent it out to work
;-)

I had connected by the serial port. The boot info looked OK, except
for a message like "Cannot read config from EEPROM trying FLASH,
config sucessful".

I think it is duff too but I was clinging on to the hope that I do not
have to buy a new one ;-)

Mark.

Not until after it had broken ;-). It is plugged into a surge
protector too.

Is your adsl phone line routed through the protector too?
