Hi all,

I'm using Microsoft Network Monitor 3.1 at a client to trouble shoot some
issues with protocols.

This client, 3 months ago, changed their IP schema, from 10.0.0.X to
10.0.20.X on the subnet I'm working on.

I'm seeing a lot of ARP requests for the 'old' IP's. For example.

21857 1299.979355 KANTECH 10.0.0.88 ARP ARP: Request, 10.0.20.13
asks for 10.0.0.88

What would make this happen? The ip address 10.0.0.88 no longer exists.
I'm worried all these requests (the ARP ones) are causing a slow down, could
that be true?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Mike

I don't think it will cause a slow down, but it would be annoying to not
find the source. You should also be seeing a MAC address. Find it in the
customer's switch and identify the port it's connected to. If you don't have
that possibility, setup your laptop with both IP ranges and see if you can
communicate with the offending IP.

Sorry, meant to add that identifying the ARP source will hopefully identify
the app or service running somewhere referencing the old IP.
