We have found the service acceptable. Latency is about as expected -
certainly browsing does not "feel" as snappy as a cable connection,
unsurprisingly, but downloads, which play quite a significant part in
our net use, are fast - typically over 500 kb/s during working hours,
and peaking right up to 1 Mb/s (the nominal service bandwidth) at other
times. We use it for VPN and it's fine, albeit slow for interactive
(terminal) access. Company size is ~50.
Reliability has been pretty good, but it has been essential for us to
retain an ISDN connection as backup.
If I could get business cable/ADSL instead, or a leased line with
reasonable performance and cost, I would certainly do so, but satellite
works reasonably well for us. We are not really rural - only a couple
of miles from Royston - and even have fibre to support our multiple ISDN
voice lines, but it seems that this technology is of no use in giving us
a decent net connection, which I find mysterious.
