USB Modem to Broadband ISP works fine

Tried to set up Ethernet........probs

I can ethernet two imac G3's ok, either using crossover cable, or via
hub.

Trying to connect to ADSL via router modem 8000 is doing my head in!!

Tried auto, or manually as per apple site, recognises router as
10.0.0.2, but what do I do next.

Apparently router is not supported Apple Mac

How do I get router modem to access ISP.

Is it via internet connect, not shown

Is it via Mac HD Network, not shown

How ??

Please help I don't really have a clue how to do it

I've looked at ADSL and Apple website, no nearer truth

Ideally someone who has started from scratch, what did you do etc

Many Thanks

Assuming an Origo 8000. Irrelevant if its a MAC or not. The computer
doesn't connect to the ISP, the router does. The connection is then via
the LAN. The MAC doesn't need to support the router.

What happens if you simply fire up your web browser, and do as the Origo
installation instructions
<http://www.origo2000.com/filedb/filedb.php?action=file&id=24>
say
"type http://10.0.0.2/ into the address bar?

You should get a password dialogue box

Username is admin
Password is epicrouter

Then you should get a page that allows you to tell the router the
username & password given by your ISP.

Then the router connects to the ISP and the network is away.

Where does this process fail?

If the MAC doesn't see the router try

# open System Preferences
# under Internet & Network, click Network
# in the menu next to 'Show:' select Built-in Ethernet
# select using DHCP from the ‘Configure IPv4:’ menu, then click the
Apply Now button
# the IP Address field should fill in with an IP address (probably
10.0.0.1)

If that doesn't work get back to us.

You had all this explained in uk.comp.sys.mac. Don't you check replies to
your posts ?

Gets to just before this bit, save and re-boot, "Operation timed Out"
error message after couple of minutes, when trying to save and reboot
the 8000

I have neither a MAC nor an Origo router, but this sounds like either

A) The Router reboots and drops the password protected connection to the
web browser. That I would expect, and simply refreshing the browser
window should bring up the password dialogue again - if you need it. At
that point the router should be online to the ISP and you should be able
to browse the internet ( make sure the browser is set up to use the LAN
and not going looking for a dial up link). What does the Link light on
the router say is happening. (flashing, steady or out?)

If it flashes a bit then goes steady, then the router is online and you
should be able to surf.

If the link light does not come up

You have got the appropriate filters in place?

You haven't still got the USB modem connected to the phone line?

B) The Router is faulty
