I guess that this has nothing to do with wireless. Anyway, if the cable
modem is USB-only then you may be out of luck. If the cable modem has an
ethernet jack, then all you need to do is get an ethernet cable and run it
from the the cable modem to the computer. Then, you need to turn on DHCP
for ethernet (which should be the default) in the appropriate preferences on
the mac. Turn the cable modem off and on and then connect the computer
(just in case it still thinks that the desktop is connected since it may
only be allowed to issue one IP address by DHCP). Then turn the computer
on.
