Hi

I would like to know how to avoid the APIPA and if it
persists what steps have to be taken in win 95/98/2k/xp.
If given a reply in avoiding APIPA i would be more happy.

What is an APIPA? A Google search gives many possibilities. Please start
here before you give more details:

APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing) only occurs if a network
adapter is configured to obtain an IP address automatically and it's
unable to communicate with a DHCP server to get an IP address
assignment.

So, you can avoid APIPA by assigning a static IP address or by making
sure that there's a DHCP server on the network.

To disable APIPA, follow the procedure shown in the "MORE INFORMATION"
section of this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

How to Use Automatic TCP/IP Addressing Without a DHCP Server
