What city ? Is it a metropolitan area, or is it like Carroll, Iowa ? It
makes a big difference. Are you in the initial stages of planning, or has a
large effort already been put forth ? Do you have licensing ? After looking
at their websites, it seems as tho the Aperto only comes in with 5.8 GHz
for unlicensed and the other freq. ranges are licensed. The Airspan for
unlicensed is available in 900MHz, 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. I can't imagine you
have purchased licenses.
Having done a state-wide deployment (and other deployment's) of another
companies product, rival's of both aforementioned companies, and if you
wanted to use all unlicensed frequencies only, it would be best to use a
mix of 900 and 2.4, maybe even 5.8 as well. 900 MHz has better penetration
of foliage and obstruction's, and link's that may not be usable in 2.4 or
5.8 GHz may work well in the 900 range.
Setting up a WISP is a not as simple as throwing up an antenna and selling
subscription's.....well it could be, but not if you are serious about
having a service that is reliable, can provide the bandwidth you were
counting on, and can acheive strong links where you expect to get strong
links. Prop studies should be done, there are a couple of good free tools.
