Apache server ignore missing alias/directory?

I have an alias and directory set up for a network share and the
server logs on as a user with permission, all works well unless the
share is not avaliable, then the server has a fatal error on start up.
Is there a way to config the server to ignore errors or part of the
..conf file on startup?

Thanks
