Hi people.

I cannot seem to find specs on the behaviour of APs which connect on
the ethernet (like my CNAP711). The ATMEL 76C510 isn't documented, and
Atmel doesn't release datasheet.

My problem is that if I ping the AP at some address which isn't it's
own, it _changes_ to that address and remains there (the normal config
address changes, even in the setup, though is seems it's not made
permanent. Power-cycling
returns to the original IP).

Is this normal behaviour? Some kind of method to distinguish between
connected clients? And, is it necessary then to put the AP on a
separate network?

Can someone point me to some docs or help me out?
Thanks in advance,
John

How are you pinging the AP at some address that "isn't its own"? Are you
using a manual arp entry in the client? Did you then clear that manual
arp entry?

Maybe the AP does that automatically to make it easier to initially
configure using manual arp if you know its MAC but not its IP. Once it
reboots, it reverts to its set IP.
