AOL Router

Hi
Does anyone know what is provided in the way of a free
wireless modem/router for new signups to AOL. Does it offer a direct
wired LAN connection as well as wireless. Many thanks for any replies.

I can only tell you what I learnt from setting a friend up on AOL.
She was supplied with a Netgear router, wireless with 4 Ethernet ports.
She had used an AOL supplied USB modem for a year and the Netgear was the
one they sent.

An absolute doddle to setup freehand or with AOL software heaven forbid,
lol.
I did do it both ways so that I could answer queries such as yours.

I also use this friends connection to test ADSL routers that customers have
had trouble with as they don't get an easy life with her 3 teenagers usage.
If anyone can break something they will.
The Netgear has stood up well in all fairness.

And the router password and user name are on a sticker on the bottom.

They sent me a Netgear dg834g v3 - this was for a new AOL silver account.
4 ethernet port + wireless. As far as I know they are currently still sending this model out.
It's a pretty good router, although I haven't tried the wireless.

Unfortunately, I have already signed up with AOL. The one advantage is
that I am getting the AOL silver with router for £9-99 per month. I
hit problems during the online signup so rang the 0800 signup help
number. This kind lady told me that I was trying to signup at £14-99
per month when I could have the same for £9-99 per month. Needless to
say, I didn't argue!!
