Hi there. I'm a newbee needing help. I have managed to set up an ad hoc
wireless network at home using a US Robotics Wireless PCI Adapter and a
Wireless PC Card for the laptop. Everything works fine and the laptop sees
the Broadband connection on the PC and connects to it via Internet Explorer.
I am trying to set up a sililar ad hoc network for a friend who uses AOL
Broadband. The laptop sees the AOL connection on the PC but AOL launches the
sign in sequence and then won't connect saying no TCP/IP is available. Have
I somehow got the AOL configuration on the laptop wrong or are there any
issues that I should know about with AOL with regard to using an ad hoc set
up?
Many thanks for any help.

The first think you should know is to avoid AOL like the plague..,
but if your friend has it....the problem is AOL's use of VPN type log on
software.

AFAIK you can use AOL with a router / wifi providing the router can be set
up for MTU=1400
There has been treads on this on uk.telecom.broadband , use Google to
search.
Regards,
Martin

I don't think you'll be able to establish an Ad Hoc network and share the
internet connection. Your friend needs a router, not just any router either is
compatible with AOL. Linksys, Netgear and Actiontec make certain models that
are compatible. I am using the Linksys WRT54G which works very well with AOL.
