AOL DSL Networking

Next week I have to set up a clients network for them as they are upgrading
from a single AOL dial up to 5 PC's networked to share the one DSL line.

Normally we sell BTO circuits and use DLink kit but this customer wanted to
keep the AOL email adresses as they are short :-|

Bought the recommended router (Thompson Speedtouch 510) and read up on the
multiple screen names malarkey on the AOL web site but I still haven't got a
good feeling about this.

Anyone else got this up and running within an hour or so or am I going to be
there all day, any pointers or pitfalls to look out for?

Cheers

Dave

I've set one up for my friend .. just need to remember to set the MTU to
1400 .. otherwise you'll scratching your head on why the web seems so slow
and some IMs won't work .. Other than that, it was smooth sailing for me..
Username/password as per AOL (E-Mail Removed) / password .. more info

As above, wasn't too challenging, remember to set the MTU to 1400 though. I
set this up for a client in the days before AOL officially 'supported'
broadband sharing via routers so took me a while to work out why the
connection was rubbish.

It's also a good idea to register a seperate screenname for the router, and
then just configure the AOL clients to connect over the LAN. Or you can bin
the AOL clients altogether if the users are happy to use IE or whatever
instead. You can then download AOL Communicator for email use only

HTH
