AOL Connection - Broadband

Hi
I have been told by AOL that my line has been activated for
DSL but when I plug in my Thomson Speedtoiuch 330 modem, the ADSL
light simply flashes. AOL reckon that when I get my wireless router as
supplied by them, it will all work and I will have ADSL working. I am
very cynical about this as I dont believe the line has been activated
after my migration from Demon. Am I correct to be cynical, is there
any way to find out,( apart from AO)L, if my line has been activated?

Ian

If the settings for AOL are wrongly configured on the Speedtouch, then
yes, I believe all it will do is flash.

However, there seem to be so many ways to configure routers with AOL,
it's anyone's guess which is right.

What settings/configuration has your router got?

I have setup quite a few routers on AOL now and its very easy because AOL is
not such a pita as it used to be. Wait until you get your router and I
think you will be surprised how easy it is. One good thing you don't need
AOL software anymore.

I have not received their router as yet but just have the Speedtouch
330 connected to a USB port and to the telephone line. Maybe I should
just reserve judgement until the promised Netgear router arrives.
Thank you for your input.

if its a migration the line isn't de-activated your Demon service
should work up to the point the AOL one starts.

Apologies, i didn't read your post accurately enough to realise you have
a USB modem and not a router as your current connection.

Migration aren't always seamless, I had a 2 month break between my old
ISP ceasing service & my new ISP supplying (long story of chasing up
one tree & then another until finally they got their guy, it wasn't a
BT problem, to site & within 60 minutes everything was working, like I
told them 2 months previous).

If you're wondering why I stuck it out......it's over £120 cheaper per
year & I'm not relying on their flakey email service...

doesn't sound like a migration, more of a "cease and reprovide".

I think this is the thread that I originally started so just wanted to
say that I now have the Netgear Wireless Modem/Router from AOL and
find their service fast and good. I have only been here since 6th Jan
so it is early days yet but I am impressed with AOL up to now. BTW, I
found a free telephone number for their tech support. Looked on
www.saynoto0870.com
