Hi,

I have a poot with a 533 megahertz AMD K6-2 w/3DNow! processor.
When I check the compatibility for use with BT broadband it tells me that...

"Your processor speed is less than the required minimum for BT Broadband.
You need a minimum of 233 MHz "

Anyone able to help a confused soul?
When I was at school 533MHz was faster than 233MHz ¿

thanks for any info

mori

It is largely irrelevant. It might take a minimum spec to run the usb dsl
modem, but to be honest, if your PC can manage a network card, get a dsl
router (£30 from ebuyer) then you can connect to anything which can accept
network connections, which is virtually anything!!!!!

Until last December I was running a P3 500MHz PC on ADSL through an Ethernet
card & ST530 router without any probs. -- USB connection to the router
wasn't stable though, that's why I switched to Ethernet.

Before I swapped my mobo out for an Intel one, I was running on a similar
spec AMD to yourself with no problems.

I agree that it *should* be irrelevant, but I'm worried that any software
provided by BT might refuse to install

thanks

USB modems require CPU processor time to function correctly, known as
"software modems", whilst 533Mhz is indeed faster than 233Mhz, it sounds
like either you system may be setup wrong, or the install program is
incorrectly indetifing your CPU. AMD use their PR (performance rating),
where the actual clock speed is somewhat lower than what they claim
(it's a marketing gimmick that still works on many people today).
