I am thinking about moving to them when my contract is up... if you
use them could you share your opinion on the service (and the tech
support)?

Only activated yesterday the BEbox is rubbish followed the install
instructions to the letter but no way would it connect to the net so
installed the Linksys adsl modem rooter that I have which is ADSL2
compatible . Speed was abysmal less than 10Mb and that is with the PRO
service which is supposed to deliver 24Mb but in essence but for most
subscribers is only delivering a 15 to 20 Mb speed which is ok but I
am not getting it . Many people in the BE forum are recommending the
NETGEAR DG834N RANGEMAX NEXT 270MBPS MODEM ROUTER
selling at PC World for 88.00 should be 130.00 so went and bought one
speed no different no problem it can go back tomorrow ).
The other problem being is that BE do not support any other Modems
except the one supplied and along with this is the fact that although
support and other department calls are free 0808 numbers you need to
wait for many minutes for someone to answer your call and it can take
up to 90 minutes someone reported in the forum this evening !.
Before taking the Netgear back I am going to have another go with the
BE box and se what happens .

Tell us more as I was going to change over to them.

It depends on the quality of your phone line and the distance from the
exchange. 15 to 20Mbps on a standard phone line is very good. It's just
about pushing it to the limit.

That shows they don't have much of a clue then. Some people will only
recommend a product they have been able to set up - just so they can copy
the procedure for others and make it look like they know what they're
talking about. Ask them any questions and they usually come to a newsgroup
for the answer! ANY router or modem capable of ADSL2 will work with BE so
long as you know how to set it up and follow the instructions correctly.
Rangemax only refers to the speed at which the router will shift data. A
54M one is more than sifficient unless you have two or three computers all
transfering data at the same time via the router. You will be lucky if PC
World take it back as it isn't faulty - you have just followed very bad
advice from people that don't have a clue. Either that or you have also
misread their replies!

That is to keep it simple, so that they can help people without any
knowledge of computers to get up and running by giving the exact settings
out. Maybe you should give them a call before listening to people on a
forum that have already given you incorrect and bad advice.

Oh not again, stop quoting the bad advice from others. Phone them and let
the company help you sort out your misunderstanding of how ADSL2 works via
your phone line and get it working for you.
You obviously don't know what happens in the first week of being connected ?
Go and ask the forum if you must, but your maximum speed will be worked out
during a training period. You would be advised if you called the company.

If you don't know what to do and don't want to follow bad advice from a
forum, PHONE BE. They will talk you through it all and get it working.
Then learn to ignore silly forums.

NO.

The speed you actually get is very dependent on your line length and
performance. When I talked to Be, they were able to give an estimate of
how fast it would work for me based on my postcode and estimated 14 Mbps,
even though I get a full 8 meg connection with 'ordinary' ADSL. Did you
ask them this question ? I can only assume not.

To be honest, your post suggests that you're not very technically wised up
so I suggest you calm down and take things slowly step by step.

And he lied...he doesn't get his full 8 meg....see this post

"I just downloaded a 695 MB Linux distro in about 14 mins.
That's a sustained 6620 kbps. Another tick for IDNet."

Thats certainly nowhere near his 8meg.

Here's a few speed tests he posted

http://www.speedtest.net/result/208205290.png

http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/res...0773&v=2910432

http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/res...9370&v=2901920

http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/res...1899&v=2862223

He claims the bbmax test is accurate and yet he can hardly reach as high as
7 megs let alone his full 8 he's now claiming to get.

The maximum download rate possible with BT's max dsl is 7150 kbps when you have
an 8128 kbps sync. Which is what I have.

It's 92.5% of the maximum possible which is very good. I have had faster
downloads but it does depend on the path and the server on the other end of
course.

Did anyone ever call you a whiney twat btw ?

This just frustrates me, because it is so pathetic to bait people like
that when he wrote a perfectly acceptable post. Whatever group
politics exist, please, keep it thread specific.

So ALL ADSL suppliers, including Idnet, are misleading with their advertising
then because, according to you,no one can get the 8meg they advertise. Yet
you complain about VM's advertisin.g..i think you need to look at your own
ISP first.
You also claimed you got the "full" rate of your connection when you don't
even seem to achieve the 7150 kbs,
I'm also not interested in your sync rate.....you could sync at 1 gig,but
if you can only consistently d/load at 1 kbs then 1 kbs is the connection
you've got.Your connection states it 8 meg....and you NEVER get
it.....contrary to your claim that you get a full 8 meg connection

What you said was
"I get a full 8 meg connection with 'ordinary' ADSL"
You don't....you're not even getting the full speed you say is possible on
your line,eg:7150 kbs

> Did anyone ever call you a whiney twat btw ?

Only you...but you call everyone that disagrees with you (or shows you up
to be a liar) similar names anyway.

Be's service is ADSL2+, not ADSL2. Also, the router must be able to
support RFC1483 bridged mode in order to work.
