A year or so ago I replaced the antennas on a SMC7004AWBR with N-type
connectors to which I attached alternately a cantenna and a recycled
microwave repeater "barbeque grill". Between
1) my sloppy soldering,
2) connector and cable losses,
3) less than perfect antennae, and
4) SWR losses (?) perhaps increased by impedance mis-matches (?),
I saw no breathtaking advantage. The factory-installed antennae do not
unscrew. I bet you will have better results with something from the top of
http://www.freeantennas.com/.
