Gateway through a client?
Can anyone here help? we have setup a wireless network across the town using
dlink dwl 700 access points, the setup is an access point in the middle of
the link set as an Access point, then 2 machines either side of that
communicate to it with the same units DWL 700 set as clients. The system
works great for normal networking however the main reason for the link was
to get one of the client machines broadband access, herein lies the problem.
With the setup as shown above everything works fine until I plug in a router
at the end of one of the clients, when I do this the access points can no
longer see the clients and all pings stop, as soon as I unplug the router
it starts working again? My question to the group is, is there a technical
reason why this configuration wont work or is it something that I can set in
my router? The router is an efficient Networks 5861 and will be positioned
the other side of one of the client AP units on a Ethernet hub. I have
checked and made sure there are no IP or gateway addressing conflicts, all
are set to a rigid list obv DHCP has been turned off for security reasons.
Any help would be greatly appreciated just for the record we have managed
over 40KM when testing these AP units using modified sat dishes! so are well
suited for this kind of application. Thanks in advance.
