Hi folks

My parents have just come to the end of their first year with
EFHbroadband and in general they have been happy with the service, but
now they have increased their charges from £10+vat per month to £15 per
month for 512 unlimited.

So my Dad asked if their were any cheaper options.

Now they are not realy heavy users, just email, some silver surfing and
downloading photos from family. They do not do p2p. Oh and their exhange
is rural and limited to 512 anyway.

I initial told Dad that the £15 EFH was pretty competive and they may
only save a £1 or so by migrating, so it was not really worth the hassle.

then I saw e7broadband and see that if they pay up front for 2 years at
£240 they effectively get 512 unlimited for £10/month and the migration
is free. They already have a modem / router so do not need a crappy USB
modem.

But obviously paying for 2 years upfront is risky, so what do you good
folks know about e7. Any good, customer service, reliability. Anyone
know whos back bone they are on (hopefully not NTL) etc etc

Any info greatfully received

Cheers

Try www.ukonline.co.uk - £10 per month (unlimited download), inc VAT - plus
£25 connection fee, for 1 Meg

Or 2 Meg for £15 p.m. - no connection fee.

These prices depend on whether you are in the UKO network areas or not.

I don't know too much about them, but given BT charge an ISP around £9 a
month just to provide an ADSL circuit, I'm not sure how £10 a month ADSL
can be sustainable.

It might be worth looking at Metronet and Newnet, they both do packages
starting at around £11-12 a month, not unlimited but if they don't need
unlimited.

cheers,
Paul

We're with them, it started off well, but for the last 2 months the
connection has been very slow at peak times and has poor pings.
It looks like a contention issue to me, if it is, I can't say I'm
surprised because £10 per month can't pay for much bandwidth.

I'm on an IPstream connection, they also use Easynet in their LLU
areas.

I don't think it is worth committing to a two year contract to save
£30 on the connection fee. If you do pay any ISP over £100
upfront, use a credit card so you are protected by the CCA
if they go bust.

If you want to know more about E7, read the complaints on the
e7even forum at adslguide -

Regards,

Mel.

Sorry, know little about E7, but paying 2 years would be covered on the
credit card guarantee (if they went bust, at least) but not really make
life easy if service was poor. Metronet (at 10+VAT) is one of the few
other low cost services, but has a pretty low limit at that price (a
few hundred MB only, but on a sliding scale up to 22.75 if they d/l
quite a few GB of material, eg off the BBC). I have been a Metronet
customer, and know others who are with them. I moved as I could get
2000 kbps at 14.99, which would not apply in their case. Peter M.

UK ADSL <http://tinyurl.com/dghgq> - Happy to save cash with Plus.Net!

Unsuitable for heavy downloaders, but fine for video/audio streaming.

would it ? I know about the general principles of buying stuff on
credit cards, but does it hold true for extended delivery of a service
over 2 years ?

Not been in a position to check it, but the sum involved would be in the
right bracket, and the contract is surely for them to provide service for
a fixed period of time. If they failed in that (gone bust), I'd expect it
to be covered. Something I will endeavour to check on. Peter M.
