Anyone had any luck getting a shorter line out of BT?

Hello,

With surprising ease over the weekend I managed to convince a BT engineer to
tell me my line length is 7.2km (actually I just asked and he told, no
convincing required).

Now I doubt I'll ever get anything faster than 56k down a line this long so
I'm looking at alternatives. If you have had a new line installed for ADSL
and suceeded in getting a compatible line, how long was your old line? I'm
just wondering if getting a less than 6km line when my current one is 7.2km
is just never going to happen. I'll probably just apply for a new line when
I find an ISP that can do the new line and ADSL simultaneous order - here's
a hint plusnet - but I thought I'd ask here first.

Thanks for any information.

Dave.

You just need to get out a pair of mole-grips, and pull really hard
on the cable
I don't know that 7.2Km will certainly fail on all possible cable
mixes, but know that mine at 6.5Km or so is pretty close to the
edge.

You might always try ordering a new line, stating that it's for ADSL.

The worst that can happen is that they can come round and kill you.
I don't think this is usual BT policy though.

It all depends on what type of day the engineer has had & how difficult it
is to get the line there as a failure equates to nothing, a complete waste
of time in this day of stats & virtually permanent performance reveiws & so
may just wind the poor little bugger up a tad...
