As subject (Blueyonder problem)

Tried to sort out a full reinstall on a relatives` machine and I think
her driver CD is goosed - webstar.exe bombs out, and depending on how you
install it (manually etc) it either fails or thinks its ok and then fails
following a reboot...

(It was a clean reinstall of 98se)

Failing that, can you simply bung a network cable to the back of it, and
"connect via lan" ?

TIA...

If you don't get an answer here, connect to the news server
"news-text.blueyonder.co.uk" and ask in one of the internal blueyonder
groups news:blueyonder.users.self-help or
news:blueyonder.discussion.hi-speed

HTH?

There's some on the Scientific Atlanta website
[http://www.powertv.com/consumers/web...downloads.htm] and I
was surprised that I couldn't find these linked from our own helpsite,
so I've mailed the editor today also.

No matter what we did we couldn`t get the USB drivers to install - `doze
just insisted that it couldn`t find the drivers on either the BY disc
(with the connection helper - also tried doing the automated install
via that), the webstar install disc, or either of the two versions I
downloaded (v2 full I think, and v3 update from the SciAt website).

We`ve since thrown a network card in and connected via bog-standard
network cable, rang tech support to get the MAC address added, but as yet
(1.5hrs or so later) it still isn`t playing ball - although I know it can
take up to 24 hours to propagate through the network. We have tried
power-cycling the modem throughout this to see if that solved the
problem.

The PC is a standard generic clone I knocked together a while ago, but I
don`t have any other USB devices to hand to check whether its the modem
at fault or otherwise - it was working until a few days ago though.

I believe you can connect to the modem via a browser - can you confirm
how ? I tried pointing IE to 192.168.100.1 (spotted that on site
somewhere) but got nothing (webstar DPX100 if that helps).

No device errors now the network card is in (the USB was a pain in the
ass, spent about 6 hours trying different things to get the drivers in) -
strangely after the network card went in, the drivers for the webstar
seemed to go in ok, but still wouldn`t connect.

Any other clues you might be able to give would be appreciated - the
machine is currently configured to connect via LAN, which I assume will
be correct with using the network card rather than USB now...

Hi

If you've registered the new MAC address then I suggest you also make sure
that the USB drivers are completely removed from the system. You should
also power-off the cable modem for a while (try a few minutes), if that
doesn't work leave it off overnight. Next morning power-on the CM and let
it get a connection then plug in and power-on the PC, that should do it. If
you have any further problems or questions visit the Blueyonder forum at
www.cm-forums.co.uk
