Yep, simply install Linux.

Use PuTTY to create an ssh tunnel and then use VNC. That way you get to use
the X services on the Linux box and the Windows one is relegated to being a
simple display. Or install Cygwin on the Windows machine.

You may want to try Xwin from a company called starnet. We
have used it for several years and it works well, free eval download.

I have used 2 or 3 commercial ones at work, but always come back to
cygwin. It's free as in speech and beer.

Installer has to be understood. you have to install cygwin and then
add X
http://cygwin.com/
http://x.cygwin.com/

there will be some sample startup scrips in the cywin X11R6 directory
- hack one of those to start your application.

Go to www.yolinux.com and follow the link to Kenton Lee's X/Motif web
page. He has a list of alternatives. Some are fast, some are slow, some
are free or at least cheap, some quite expensive. Exceed from Hummingbird
is the fastest. Several have downloadable evaluation copies (some of which
don't expire). I like xmanager since it allows for concurrent sessions to
more than one host.

Sure you don't want an X server?

I use Cygwin.
