Looking to really pay around £35 a month for 1mbit ADSL at home, must have
no caps..etc...

Heard that BT are trialing it from 6th October and Zen have been trialing
it.

My Exchange will be enabled on the 1st October 2003 so I want to choose my
ISP so I can use it on the day... Modem/Router/Switch and Cables allready
bought (cables and boxes still need fitted but will be done within 2weeks
for sure)....

Any information?

I have been told Plusnet 20:1 1mbit is the best but its £45 pm... bit too
expensive for a student like myself....

Many thanks!

I wouldn't pay more than 35 quid either;
I'm not so sure the upgrade will not cost money, even though they might not
need to disconnect/reconnect you.
Also those on "rate-adaptive" DSL will not be able to have it as 512 is max
for them...

How about 50 quid one-timer for a "regrade fee"?...

I emailed my ISP, Virgin.net, to ask whether they have plans to participate
in this trial.
Well... still no response.

I tried them and they said they wouldn't be here for at least another
6months after the exchange is enabled....

No with them

Hi Ian,

Put simply (I expect someone with more spare time will or can provide
a more detailed answer) existing 1 & 2mb products available from the
likes of Plus.net et al, use a different product from BTWholesale.
Its still ADSL, but the 'technology' is different underneath (and more
expensive).

Typically, current ISP offerings for consumers will be based on
something called 'IPStream', were as other products might be based on
something called 'DataStream'.

End result? Not much difference, expect in the wallet.

We offer a consumer 1Mb (and 2Mb) service. The 1Mb service is priced at
£35 per month (£33.25 if you pay quarterly).

Our activation charge is currently discounted by 50% at £35.00.

If you require static IPs these can be supplied as well.

See our website for full details.

Good offer indeed. £35 activation fee is already much less than 60.
Is there a minimum contract?

There's one thing to it though that blocks the migration to Datastream
services for me:
E.g. at http://www.ukpost.com/adsl

"The only downside to this is that it is not possible to use the new BT
migration method to transfer from an existing ADSL supplier to us as BT will
treat that as a cease and reprovide due to the connection being upgraded to
a Business 2Mb one at their exchange."

If that means 2 weeks of wait on a dial-up (like it happens) - sorry, I
cannot manage my networks from a dial-up very well. Listening to endless
retrains always made me want to kill someone and probably developed a
premature stomach ulcer.

That's why I'm staying for now with 512, it's broadband.

Yes. At the moment we have a minimum contract term of 12 months.

Yes it is a problem and that's why we've been up front about it.

I am told that in January we'll have access to migration facilities.

I carried out two cease and reprovide moves to us last month and they
took a little over two weeks each - BT didn't clear the exchanges down for
10 days after the specified cease date.
