The MN500 was released in Sept-Oct 2002. At that time, WPA wasn't even on
the radar.
Most routers released in and around that time from other manufacturers don't
support WPA or have no upgrade path to WPA. I wouldn't hold my breath
hoping for WPA support in the MN500 either.
