Any good+cheap 512 isp's

Finally got shut of AOL broadband and want to get another broadband
account setup. I am looking for a 512k adsl connection that costs
about £20 p/m. I dont want a years contract, already have the modem,
already have news and email accounts. Dont need any content unless it
particularly better than the rubish on aol. Need good access to p2p.
Bulldog springs to mind except that it is radsl and i'm not sure if
that is as good. Anybody recomend anything else?

All 512K services, via any ISP, will be RADSL... though its *very* rare to
notice speeds being affected by this and if they are, its only the upstream
which is.

If you do decide to use Bulldog would you mind quoting my referral code when

You pay more typically for not having an annual contract - I guess you have
been bitten by poor AOL service. Thankfully, not all providers seem to be
like that.

I use PlusNet who offer a large range of services and prices including
monthly billing.

They have been good for me so far and others on this newsgroup seem to like
them too (one of the main reasons I went with them). They also read the
group quite often.
If you want p2p, make sure that you don't go for the cheapest PlusNet
offering which excludes that and binary news.

Pretty well all offerings are RADSL, bear in mind that virtually all ISP's
re-sell BT's connections. It won't make any difference unless you are right
on the edge anyway, and in that case you would get constant drop-outs on
standard ADSL.

I take it you are with them? Are they any good though as my friend is with
dcomms and he said he had trouble getting on with kazaa with them and dcomms
said that p2p was restricted.

I have had a Primetime 2000 line on BulldogDSL since September/October last
year and it is generally quite good and Bulldog have stated several times
that they do not limit or restrict/cap their packages in any way.

If you are in Central London - its really a no brainer - go for Bulldog.. as
you will be on their LLU network, get 400K upload and suffer virtually no
contention.

Elsewhere it partly depends on what exchange you are - for instance, their
Primetime services are only available at about 550/600 exchanges - there is
an availabilty checker on their web site.

Apart from the LLU exchanges, the Primetime service is normally provided
over a "DataStream" connection - now most people using these also have no
problems but a few do. These problems however, tend to be "localised" to a
particular exchange until Bulldog upgrade their link to that exchange (which
they do appear to actively do)

Personally, I tend to get good speeds most of the time. During the day, when
its supposed to be capped to about 60k (512K), I can actually get up to
80/90k and in the evenings get 200k + when I am downloading.

many of the comments there are negative but thats mainly due to the fact
that those who are happy with the service don't post. It might be difficult
to believe when you read there but the number of "complaints" are a lot less
than there were a few months ago as Bulldog gradually resolve individual
issues.

I think Bulldog have previously said that over 98%+ of their customers have
no problems (and I imagine the figure is higher how as problems are
resolved). It is a 12 month contract but if you have problems and they are
not resolved Bulldog appear to be willing to release you early with no
penalty.
