Hi all,

Apparently next month Be '24 Mb broadband' (www.bethere.co.uk) will
be available on my exchange.

Anyone had any experience with this company (Be)? What are they like
to deal with?

At the moment I use Nildram 'MaxDSL' and my line syncs at 8 Mbps but my
throughput averages around 4 Mbps, rarely rises above 5 Mbps and (usual
weekday afternoons) it can drop as low as 1-2 Mbps.

Bearing that in mind, what are the chances that I would actually get a
much faster throughput with this '24 Mb broadband' ?

Any other comments, warnings, etc?

Thanks

Kit

They're ok, you can open a ticket on their website, and usually get a
response in good time.

Post your line statistics and someone will be able to tell you.

Spooky. Be have just enabled my exchange too and I was going to post almost
exactly the same questions.

Line stats : 512k
Down Noise Margin: 11.5dB
Down Attenuation: 62dB

Crow flies distance to exchange: 3.4km
Likely cable length given I live on an ex-field and the road does a 1 mile
dog-leg before heading towards the exchange:~5km

Be generally won't provision anyone with a line longer than 5.5km and your
attentuation is very high.
Give them a ring - it's a freephone number, 0808 234 8566. They are usually
pretty conservative on speed estimates.
Also, if you want a month for free, I'd happy to refer
There is also a promo for free connection until the end of March

I have been with Be since the beginning of June last year when I moved from
BT.
I only have BT to compare with, but Be really are excellent
Freephone number for customer support 24/7, online ticketing system with
fairly swift responses in most cases, forums frequented by staff members and
very good support from other Be users (including myself)
The call centre is based in Sofia and the team are pretty well trained and
their English is excellent (certainly far better than I could do in any of
the other languages I speak)
A big congestion issue last year was pretty much sorted in 2 - 3 weeks by
increasing bandwidth of links
There are some gripes like the slightly unreliable BeBox (Speedtouch 716WL
or 780WL) and dodgy DNS servers (although now vastly improved), but these
are things you can easily get around.
Happy to answer any specific questions
There is currently a promo for free connection until the end of March and
they've just re-introduced their referral scheme where the referrer and
referee both get a month free ( hint )

Nicola
A very happy Be user

I'm 2.8km to the exchange according to Be, and suggested i'd be looking
at 7.5 to 8 Mbit download speed. This, according to the Be forums, is
usually a conservative estimate of true speed once connected.
