I have a Linksys wireless broadban router BEFW11S4 for indoor use. The
unit comes with two pencil-like antenna's connected with a normal coax
connector on the back. I have good recption within 10 meters indoor, but
more distance away give much worse connection (1 mbps max). Between
laptop with linksys cardbus adapter and router are one wall and one
wooden door.

Should I connect a special antenna? if needed, what type of antenna is
recomended for typical usage?

Have you tried changing the channel?

Your are must have a lot of interference as I can cover ~1700 sq feet with
1 AP.
