Why not suggest to your friend that HE try a directional antenna? Better
yet, your friend could mount a D-Link DWL-G810 Xtreme G Wireless Bridge or
equivalent outside his house and connect it to his computer with an ethernet
cable.
You can put a directional antenna on your SMC, but that will reduce your
range in areas that you might not want to reduce range.
