Answer Phone/Fax machines compatible ADSL?

Hi

I am thinking about upgrading to ADSL but one thing is putting me off. I
have read that some fax machines may not work with ADSL. We have a really
old Panasonic KX-F2300E/KX-F2400E model (not sure of exact version, one of
those 2) Answering system/fax machine, but I can find no mentions if this
particular model is compatible with ADSL and it's so old Panasonic don't
even seem to talk about it anymore. I have also read that even with recent
models produced by Sharp for instance have a disclamer saying they are not
compatible with ADSL so buying a totally new model may not be the answer. On
the other hand people seem to be posting saying that all you need are good
quality microfilters as opposed to the cheaper ones that are available and
everything should be fine.

Can someone please give me advice on what the correct way to go is as it
seems like there is conflicting information being given and there doesn't
seem to be a definitive list of compatible fax systems for ADSL.

Thanks in advance...

In theory pretty well all fax machines should work on a line with ADSL
as long as the filters are of reasonable quality. When you think about
it the modems in faxes typically run at lower speeds than normal
computer modems and they are also happy to run on an ADSL line.

Alas not all fax machines will be as well up on the theory ;-) You may
find a situation where you get problems but chances are it will be
particular to the set of circumstances. i.e. a fax might have problems
on one ADSL telephone line and yet be fine on another. The only sure
fire way you are going to find out is to try it and see. If you get
problems, then ebay the fax and buy another one! Failing that, sign up
for an ISP that offers a fax to email service - coupled with a modem in
your PC this will let you do away with a dedicated fax altogether in
most cases.

John.
