I see that the person got around his problem by installing windows ME.
However I only have windows 98 second edition and I am trying to get a
computer up and running after re-installing windows 98 from scratch. In my
case, I have an IPC computer with a d-link network card and an internal model
that I cannot identify. No matter what I have tried, I cannot get an ip
address and when I do try and check out the ipconfiguration with ipconfig at
the command prompt, I get the error ip configuration fatal error. The
information on the Microsoft support site mentions a fix, but that is related
to the use of a modem. I am trying to connect to the web through a network
card. This is the only windows 98 computer that I have ever had this
problem. Could it be related to the network card? I beleve that I have
identified the card correctly as a D-Link DFE 530 TX plus card (rev C). Is
there any problems associated with this D-Link card? Something else I have
noticed is that when I have the network card and the modem listed in the
network configuration, the error goes away, but I get all zeros for an ip
address. I have TCP/IP configured correctly, but I still get the error.
Help me if you can.
