Another ISP has a "heavy downloader's club" ...

ISP review <http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.shtml> carries news that NDO
has warned some customers about its Fair Usage Policy (which is on site at
<http://www.ndo.com/en/1/fairdatatransferpolicy.html> )

Once a customer receives a warning email they will have 14 days to modify
their usage before they are moved into the restricted area (a contention
will mean the heavies compete with each other for traffic). The ISP will
assist those who won't change, to migrate to another ISP.

The initial warning went to 76 people, then in second week the follow up
warning went to 44 people; this week only 15 people have had increased
contention applied - all the others had reduced their usage as requested.

So, the 'writing is on the wall'. Good to see another ISP is willing to
act when a minority are so high on usage they 'take the mick'. Peter M.

Maybe opening a can of worms by saying this, but I think more isps should
take action against frequent heavy users. Like they say, people who
occasionally go over the theoretical limit are not a problem, for them its
the frequent abusers.

Will these users receive compensation for the cut in service there ISP has just
imposed? I think the answer is clear, it's just another case of companies
screwing there customers.

Customers are aware of the fair usage policy when they sign up, if they do
not like it they can find another isp who is willing to allow for their high
usage.

Screwing their customers - or making life better for the vast majority?

afternoon and told none of there customers.

Ah but they aren't going to make life better they can simply have more
subscribers in the same amount of purchased bandwidth if by "vast majority" you
are referring to share holders then there life may well get better.

Or 'getting back' at customers 'screwing their ISP' when they have taken
for granted that they can suck hundreds of GB a month without having to
pay in proportion to the quantity of traffic they are causing, compared
to other less heavy users. No need to bother with attempts to justify
it as I won't be drawn in any further! Peter Morgan.

I recommend them and save some cash.

With a guarantee allowing new users to migrate if they're unhappy!

That is very bad practice and every customer should be informed of a change
in the terms and conditions. A customer should always be given a right of
cancel if they do not accept any changes in the service.
NDO have a clear Fair Usage policy (link on original post) and state they
will help customers migrate if they do not accept the "bad boy pipe".
