Annoying networked printer glitch

We have a network of 6 machines, with a networked printer attached to
one of them.

Generally, this works fine. Switch on your computer, log in, and
print.

On one workstation however it doesn't quite work like this. If the
user (any user) follows the steps described above, a message appears
saying 'Could not start print job'. If instead the user

EITHER
logs out and then logs in again,

OR
navigates through Microsoft Windows Network to find the computer that
the printer is connected to and manually logs in

then it all works fine.

I just can't figure out why this one machine requires this additional
process when all the others work fine.

Any thoughts?
